Commemorating 75 Years Of Tropical Forest Science and Conservation

Join us as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the International Institute of Tropical Forestry!

The adventure begins on Tuesday, May 20th at 8:00am with an Urban Field Trip. Preregistered participants will explore several stations within and around the Río Piedras river watershed. Transportation and water will be provided, but participants need to bring their own lunch. Spaces are limited, so make sure to register early!

Then, on Wednesday, May 21st, we hope you’ll join us for a full-day of Science, Forestry, Management and Art talks, with keynote speakers from the International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF), USDA Forest Service, partner organizations, and academic institutions from Puerto Rico and the continental United States. Registration begins at 8:30am on Wednesday, May 21, at the Fundación Luis Muñoz Marín in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico.

¡Acompáñenos en nuestra celebración del 75 aniversario del Instituto Internacional de Dasonomía Tropical! La aventura comienza el martes, 20 de mayo, a las 8:00am, con un viaje de campo, donde los participantes pre-registrados visitarán varias estaciones dentro y alrededor de la cuenca del Río Piedras. Los espacios son limitados, así que asegúrese de registrarse a tiempo.

Luego, el miércoles, 21 de mayo, ofreceremos un día cargado de charlas en torno a las ciencias, el manejo y el arte dentro del contexto forestal. Nuestros conferenciantes incluyen personal del Instituto Internacional de Dasonomía Tropical, el Servicio Forestal de Estados Unidos, organizaciones aliadas, así como instituciones universitarias locales y de Estados Unidos. El registro comienza a las 8:30am el mismo miércoles, 21 de mayo, en la Fundación Luis Muñoz Marín en Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico.

75th Anniversary Activities Registration Form

Please fill out this form in order to register for the activities that will take place as part of the International Institute of Tropical Forestry’s 75th Anniversary Celebration. You may choose to participate in all or some of the activities: for instance, you may choose to attend the symposium, but opt out of the field trip. Spaces are limited, so we encourage you to register early!

Urban Field Trip


The Urban Field Trip is an opportunity to showcase multiple social and ecological components of the city of San Juan and how these affect the vulnerability and adaptability of the city to future conditions.  The Urban Field trip is intended for members of the public, local and federal agencies.

  • Limited to 50 participants
  • 8:00am preregistered participants will meet at UPR Botanical Garden parking lot (Jardín Botánico Sur, Río Piedras)
  • Transportation will be provided – Bus departs at 8:30am
  • Water will be provided, but you should bring your own lunch
  • Please wear comfortable shoes!
